The serious problem in the traditional system of meat production
The current system of meat production is cruel with animals and it represents a major environmental stressor and a threat to public health
* It is responsible for around 18% of the total amount of global greenhouse gas emissions.
* It consumes around a quarter of all freshwater available in the globe.
*It utilizes 26 % of the planet's ice-free land for livestock grazing.
* It contributes to the increasing loss in biodiversity.
Disrupting The Way Of Making Meat
We use Cellular Agriculture (Cell-Ag) to make delicious meat without killing animals. This is not a substitute for meat, this is real animal meat but produced in an eco-friendly and cruelty-free way.
This amazing new type of meat is
known as Cell-Based Meat
Cell-Ag is the use of cell cultures to make cell-living products that are relevant to agriculture. At the cellular level, these products are exactly the same as those harvested from an animal. Amazing right?.
But there is a problem
The technology is currently underdeveloped, which prevents Cell-Ag to become an industrial process that can remove animals from the food system.
Because at Luyef Biotechnologies we’re passionate about changing the world through products that can disrupt the establishment, we develop R&D (Research and Development) to create a high-tech platform in order to produce cell-based meat and establish cellular agriculture as an industrial process.
Compared to conventional beef, cell-based beef is estimated to reduce land use by more than 95%, climate change emissions by 74% to 87%, and nutrient pollution by 94%.2

Benefits of using Cellular Agriculture to produce meat
The current system of production can't handle with the expected demand for meat without destroying the planet.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), meat consumption is projected to increase almost 73 % by 2050, and as it stands, there are no technically or economically viable alternatives to intensive production for providing the bulk of the livestock food supply for growing cities.
Cellular agriculture offers an amazing alternative to feed the world in an efficient, eco-friendly and intelligent way that does not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
It's free of animal suffering
Cell-Ag doesn't require to slaughter any animal to produce meat.
The process of producing cell-based meat is similar to the “natural” process, except that in this case, the cells grow outside the animal's body. However, this technology is currently underdeveloped, thus preventing Cell-Ag to become an industrial process. Our goal is to develop the technology to make Cell-Ag scalable for mass production of meat. Once this happens, there will be no need for industrial farms and animals will be removed from the global food system.
Cell-based meat it's free of genetic modifications and doesn't require the use of antibiotics or artificial hormones.
Contrary to meat coming from slaughterhouses which contain bacteria that regularly contaminates the meat we eat, cell-based meat is produced in a 100% sterile environment, and because of that, there is no need of using antibiotics, thus preventing both foodborne illnesses that are commonly seen year by year and the emergence of antibiotic-resistant pathogens.
Luyef (“clean” in Mapudungun, the language of Mapuche people) is a mission-driven food-tech company developing the technology to industrialize the production of cell-based meat.
